About this role
Vertex seeks a Principal Full Stack AI Engineer in Boston to build, extend, and operate its agentic AI platform. The role combines agent development with enterprise integrations, backend services, data retrieval, and lightweight user-facing experiences, with an emphasis on production-ready solutions in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Build agents, tools, APIs, services, interfaces, connectors, and developer-facing SDKs. Implement tool use, orchestration, memory, retrieval, and action execution; tune agent capabilities for accuracy, latency, and cost.
- Integrate the platform with internal applications, third-party tools, knowledge systems, and business services using MCP, A2A, APIs, webhooks, and event-driven patterns. Create reusable middleware and secure connectivity patterns that let agents access data and trigger actions.
- Build ingestion and retrieval pipelines for structured and unstructured enterprise content. Design authentication and authorization, including identity propagation, token handling, and access control.
- Implement monitoring, logging, tracing, evaluation, error handling, and alerting. Troubleshoot connectivity, data exchange, authentication, latency, and downstream dependencies; contribute documentation, onboarding guidance, governance standards, and security reviews. Collaborate with platform, product, data, security, and enterprise application teams.
Required qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience may be considered. Experience shipping production software, AI applications, or platform services; full-stack development in Python and/or TypeScript; and hands-on work with LLMs, agent frameworks, tool calling, orchestration, RAG, prompting, and evaluation. The role also requires enterprise API integration experience, familiarity with MCP, A2A or similar interoperability patterns, event-driven and distributed systems, authentication standards, cloud production services, problem-solving, and clear technical communication. Candidates should understand responsible use of AI coding assistants and engineering agents. No minimum years of experience are stated.
Preferred
Experience with enterprise agentic platforms, Azure AI Foundry, M365 Copilot, workflow orchestration, reusable connectors or SDKs, enterprise data and document systems, platform governance, and regulated biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or life sciences environments.
The base salary range is $166,640–$250,000, with eligibility for an annual bonus and equity awards. The role may be designated hybrid, with up to two remote days weekly, or on-site five days weekly with ad hoc flexibility; flex status is subject to company policy.
