About this role
The Senior AI Engineer designs, builds, deploys and improves enterprise AI applications supporting critical business processes in Siemens Energy’s Transformation of Industry division. The role combines generative AI engineering with software architecture and cloud-native development across Microsoft Azure and AWS. The posting displays locations in Amadora and Lisbon, Portugal, and Pune, India; the stated working arrangement is hybrid.
Responsibilities
- Build secure, scalable applications using generative AI, large language models and retrieval-augmented generation. Develop reusable Python services, REST APIs and microservices, including with FastAPI.
- Design integrations with enterprise applications, data platforms, identity services and business workflows. Own delivery from data ingestion and preprocessing through orchestration, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting and optimization.
- Develop CI/CD pipelines; apply modular design, automated testing, code reviews, observability, version control, secure coding and documentation. Implement AI guardrails, access controls, evaluations, logging and monitoring.
- Work with product, architecture, data engineering, application, cybersecurity and business teams on requirements and technical decisions. Mentor junior developers and promote reusable engineering practices; assess emerging technologies for practical value.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or a related technical field; at least 8 years of software engineering experience delivering production applications and at least 5 years of hands-on AI/ML solution development and deployment, including generative AI and RAG.
- Strong Python, API and microservice engineering; hands-on Azure and AWS experience; Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD and DevOps experience. Understanding of MLOps, AI observability, security and operations; experience with Snowflake, SQL, data integration, vector databases and enterprise architectures.
- Ability to design maintainable systems, mentor engineers, review code and communicate effectively in a globally distributed, cross-functional environment. OpenShift and Terraform experience are advantageous.
