Principal Data Scientist

Atlassian is seeking a Principal Data Scientist for its Service Collection initiative. The role uses analytics, data science and AI/ML to uncover insights from large datasets, identify opportunities, build solutions and inform product strategy and the Service Collection roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Influence Service Collection strategy and decisions through business understanding and advanced data science methods. Define, set and report department-level key results to the Service Collection R&D team.
• Build measurement frameworks, machine learning models and other tools to support growth and product decisions.
• Scope and lead high-impact projects with Engineering, Product Management and Design, Data Engineering, and Research and Insights teams. Work with executive stakeholders, teach technical concepts and mentor other data scientists.

Qualifications

• Requires 9+ years of experience in data science or related fields, including experience identifying and leading projects that affected business strategy and performance.
• Requires expertise in selecting and applying machine learning methods, including LLMs, to business problems; SQL; another data science programming language such as Python or R; and libraries such as Pandas, NumPy and Scikit-learn.
• Requires proficiency with visualization tools such as Streamlit, Tableau or R Shiny and libraries such as Matplotlib or Bokeh. Candidates should explain complex concepts to non-data audiences, communicate compelling insights and balance timely delivery with quality.
• Preferred: 10+ years of experience with a postgraduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics, econometrics or computer science.
