About this role
Verizon seeks a Distinguished Engineer to lead the architecture and design of its AI/ML practice, with a particular focus on agentic systems. The role is based in Hyderabad, Bangalore or Chennai, India, under a hybrid arrangement with work-from-home and assigned office days set by the manager. Scheduled hours are 40 per week.
Responsibilities
- Architect, develop and deploy end-to-end AI/ML solutions spanning data pipelines, training, deployment, monitoring and optimization. Produce high- and low-level technical architectures for generative and agentic systems.
- Lead and mentor data scientists and AI/ML engineers. Partner with product, engineering and business stakeholders to translate requirements into solutions, represent the team in leadership forums and promote AI/ML best practices.
- Evaluate emerging generative and agentic AI technologies, and support secure, reliable and ethical AI development. Guide the use of unstructured conversational data to create context-aware, adaptive systems.
Required qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or six or more years of work experience; six or more years of relevant work experience; and twelve or more years architecting, designing and implementing large-scale production AI/ML systems. This experience includes large-scale NLP projects and LLM fine-tuning and evaluation for tasks such as text generation, classification, summarization, question answering and entity extraction.
- A record of deploying agentic solutions at scale with measurable business results. Experience developing and deploying machine learning and deep learning models from scratch in Python, analyzing live chat or agent-call conversations, using RESTful and JSON APIs, and applying MLOps tools and practices.
- Working knowledge of NLP libraries, supervised and unsupervised learning, preprocessing, deep learning architectures and language-processing techniques. Expertise in Python, SQL, PySpark, Scala and/or other relevant tools; understanding of generative-model output validation, GPU/CPU architecture and distributed computing; and ability to guide model delivery, monitoring and lifecycle practices.
- Strong communication, presentation and technical leadership skills. The posting also calls for contributions to open-source AI/ML projects and familiarity with telecommunications data and use cases.
Preferred
A master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning or a related field.
