Role Summary: Amgen is seeking a Bioinformatics & AI Engineer to build, evaluate, and deploy deep learning and foundation-model-enabled systems to accelerate biomarker discovery, translational research, and clinical development. This individual contributor role integrates bioinformatics, machine learning, and software engineering to transform complex genomic, multi-omics, imaging, and clinical data into reliable scientific capabilities. Key Responsibilities: Design and operate foundation-model-enabled applications for genomics, proteomics, and clinical data. Adapt biological foundation models for target identification and patient stratification. Build robust model development workflows including data curation, representation learning, and retrieval augmentation. Engineer scalable pipelines for multi-omics data with clear provenance and versioning. Develop agentic workflows combining foundation models with bioinformatics tools. Define benchmarking strategies for biological relevance, robustness, and bias assessment. Partner with cross-functional teams including computational biology, wet-lab, and clinical departments. Develop production-ready services using cloud and GPU infrastructure. Produce technical documentation, model cards, and evaluation reports. Required Qualifications: Master’s or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Genetics/Genomics, or related fields. Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience in bioinformatics, machine learning, or research software solutions. Strong programming skills in Python and software engineering practices (Git, CI/CD, testing). Expertise in deep learning, transformers, and inference optimization. Experience with biological data formats (FASTQ, BAM, VCF, etc.) and cloud/HPC environments. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a biomedical, pharmaceutical, or regulated research environment is highly preferred.
