Deloitte’s AU Tax Technology and Transformation group seeks an Applied AI Engineer to develop secure, explainable and production-ready AI-assisted and agentic capabilities for tax products serving Australia-based clients. The role combines LLM applications, RAG, structured data, deterministic rules and human review, working with tax specialists, engineers, product teams and business stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Map tax workflows to identify appropriate uses of AI, rules, automation and human oversight. Build LLM assistants, document-intelligence solutions and agentic automation; orchestrate agents using LLM APIs, tool calling, structured outputs and state management.
- Develop RAG pipelines for document ingestion, chunking, embeddings, vector search, retrieval, grounding and source management. Build evaluation frameworks using reference datasets, automated and regression tests, quality metrics and feedback loops.
- Monitor quality, latency, cost, reliability and security. Apply guardrails, access controls, traceability, validation and auditability; deploy and support secure AI services and resolve production issues across services, data pipelines and integrations.
- Contribute reusable frameworks, evaluation harnesses, documentation and engineering standards. Participate in code reviews, release validation and CI/CD, and communicate technical decisions, risks and limitations to stakeholders.
Requirements
- 3–6 years of work experience; BE/B.Tech., MCA, M.Sc. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, Information Technology or Software Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
- Hands-on Python and production software, data or applied-AI development; experience building LLM applications, RAG and multi-agent systems, including patterns such as ReAct, self-reflection, plan-and-execute or hierarchical delegation.
- Experience evaluating AI systems and delivering reliable, scalable and secure products in production. Understanding of APIs, backend services, data workflows, system integration, responsible AI, secure cloud deployment, Git, CI/CD and automated testing. Strong analytical, communication, documentation and stakeholder-management skills; experience in Agile delivery environments.
Advantageous or preferred: Pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, vector databases, Docker, Kubernetes, MLflow, JavaScript or TypeScript. Exposure to AI research, postgraduate study, technical experimentation or emerging AI engineering practices is also sought.
Work location: Hyderabad. Shift: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM IST.
