Applied AI Engineer (Azure) - Software Specialist Engineer II

Deloitte’s Product Engineering team seeks a hands-on Applied AI Engineer to build and enhance full-stack products for business users, incorporating generative AI and agentic capabilities. The role spans product design through production delivery, with accountability for customer outcomes, engineering quality, and inference, token and cloud costs.

Responsibilities

• Lead requirements analysis, component design, development, testing, integration, support and ongoing maintenance. Translate business needs, architectures and UX/UI designs into technical specifications and scalable, supportable code.
• Experiment rapidly with lean solutions, engage customers and product teams throughout delivery, and balance technical feasibility with usability, business viability and value.
• Maintain code and architecture integrity, meet quality KPIs, address technical debt and use automated quality checks across the software development lifecycle. Collaborate with product management, experience and delivery teams; communicate technical trade-offs and build consensus.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, machine learning or a related discipline; the posting emphasizes experience as the most relevant factor.
• 6+ years of experience with most of Angular, React, NodeJS, Python, C#, .NET, Java, SQL/NoSQL, PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, LangGraph and unit testing frameworks.
• 3+ years building AI/ML and agentic applications, including hands-on GenAI work with LLM integration using OpenAI, Anthropic or open-source models; RAG pipelines, prompt engineering, vector databases, evaluations and AI agent orchestration.
• 3+ years of cloud-native engineering using FaaS, PaaS or microservices on cloud platforms such as Azure, including AI/ML services such as Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock or Vertex AI. Experience with application-level infrastructure as code and cost-aware engineering is required.
• Prior software engineering experience covering business context and other system diagrams, object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, code instrumentation and AI-augmented specification-driven development. Prior use of XP, Lean, DevSecOps, SRE, ADO, GitHub, SonarQube, MLflow and agentic AI tools such as LangFuse or LangSmith is listed. Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are expected.
