Research Engineer, AI

Atlys seeks a Research Engineer, AI to take AI research ideas into production and improve the speed, accuracy and reliability of visa processing. The role spans LLMs, agents and document intelligence, with results measured against approval rates, turnaround times and cost per application. The position is on-site at Delhi HQ in New Delhi, India.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship LLM-powered agents that complete complex, multi-step tasks using external tools, APIs and web interfaces.
• Build pipelines that extract, verify and reason over information in unstructured documents and images accurately at scale.
• Develop evaluation frameworks, benchmarks and datasets to assess model accuracy, reliability and safety before and after deployment, including difficult real-world cases.
• Compare models, prompting strategies, fine-tuning approaches and routing logic to improve accuracy while reducing latency and cost.
• Own systems from prototype through production, including data pipelines, inference infrastructure, monitoring and human-in-the-loop fallbacks when models lack confidence.

Candidate profile:

• The ideal candidate has 3–6 years of software engineering experience, including meaningful work building and shipping ML- or LLM-based production systems.
• Strong Python skills and familiarity with tools such as PyTorch, Hugging Face, LLM APIs, vector databases and agent frameworks are sought.
• Hands-on experience with prompting, RAG, fine-tuning, tool use and evaluations is sought, along with judgment about where those approaches succeed or fail. The posting also highlights a research mindset, disciplined experiments, the ability to use research papers effectively and a bias toward shipping. Exposure to document AI, OCR, large-scale data pipelines or fast, cost-efficient inference is valued.
