Senior ML Engineer

Standard Chartered Bank is seeking a Senior ML Engineer in Chennai, India, to deliver production-grade machine learning, generative AI and agentic AI solutions. This is a permanent, office-working, senior individual-contributor role focused on reliable outcomes in a regulated banking environment.

Responsibilities

• Translate business requirements into scalable AI systems; design, code, train, test, deploy and improve enterprise solutions for predictions, recommendations, search and business growth. Apply appropriate NLP, computer vision, deep learning, classification, clustering, supervised and unsupervised techniques to structured and unstructured data.
• Build governed agent workflows with tool calling, retrieval, memory, sandboxed execution, policy and approval controls, tracing, telemetry and automated evaluations. Establish efficient, automated processes for data analysis, model development and validation.
• Test production readiness; implement audit trails, role-based access control, regulatory controls and guardrails against hallucination, unsafe actions, data leakage and compliance violations. Monitor performance, address degradation and AI risks, and improve systems after delivery.
• Use coding agents and AI-assisted software development practices, including GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, specification-driven development and open specification workflows. Provide technical guidance and mentoring, and collaborate with engineering, product, design, infrastructure and programme teams.

Requirements

• 8–12 years of relevant hands-on experience in machine learning and software engineering, including enterprise AI/ML development, validation, deployment and improvement.
• Skills in ML, NLP and computer vision solution engineering; enterprise ML and GenAI delivery; and agentic AI harness engineering, tool use, retrieval and evaluation.
