Senior ML Engineer

Standard Chartered Bank seeks a Senior ML Engineer in Chennai for an office-working, permanent role. As a senior individual contributor, the engineer will deliver production-grade machine learning, generative AI and agentic AI solutions from business requirements and design through development, validation, deployment, monitoring and improvement.

Responsibilities

• Translate business goals into scalable AI systems supporting predictions, recommendations, search and growth strategies. Develop solutions using structured and unstructured data, applying techniques such as NLP, computer vision, classification, clustering, deep learning, supervised and unsupervised learning, and optimisation.
• Build governed agent workflows with tool calling, retrieval and memory, sandboxed execution, policy and approval controls, tracing, telemetry and automated evaluations. Establish efficient, automated processes for data analysis and model delivery.
• Test production readiness; implement audit trails, role-based access control, regulatory controls and guardrails against hallucination, unsafe actions, data leakage and compliance violations. Monitor performance, identify degradation or control gaps, escalate risks and improve deployed systems.
• Use coding agents and AI-assisted software-development practices, including GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, specification-driven development and open specification workflows. Provide technical direction and mentoring, and collaborate with engineering, product, design, infrastructure and programme teams.

Requirements

• 8–12 years of relevant hands-on machine learning and software engineering experience, including enterprise AI/ML development, validation, deployment and improvement.
• Skills in machine learning, NLP, computer vision, enterprise ML and GenAI delivery, and agentic AI harness engineering, including tool use, retrieval and evaluation. The role also calls for responsible AI, security, model governance, monitoring, software integration, cross-functional delivery and stakeholder management.
• A Master's degree with specialisation in Technology is listed as mandatory. English is required.
