Senior ML Engineer

Standard Chartered Bank seeks a Senior ML Engineer in Chennai for an office-working, permanent role. As a senior individual contributor, the engineer will deliver production-grade machine learning, generative AI and agentic AI solutions from business requirements and design through development, validation, deployment, monitoring and improvement. The work supports predictions, recommendations, search and business growth in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

• Translate business goals into scalable AI systems; design, code, train, test and deploy solutions using structured and unstructured data. Apply techniques including NLP, computer vision, classification, clustering, deep learning, optimisation, and supervised and unsupervised learning. Select appropriate algorithms, software, hardware and integration methods.
• Establish efficient, automated processes for data analysis, model development and validation. Deliver agreed scope to schedule and quality standards, monitor performance after release, identify degradation or control gaps, and improve deployed systems.
• Build governed, observable agent workflows with tool calling, retrieval, memory, sandboxed execution, policy and approval controls, tracing, telemetry and automated evaluations. Validate reliability, security, responsible AI compliance and production readiness.
• Implement audit trails, role-based access control and regulatory controls. Escalate delivery and AI risks, plan remediation, and apply guardrails against hallucinations, unsafe actions, data leakage and compliance violations.
• Use AI-assisted software development practices, including coding agents, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, specification-driven development and open specification workflows. Provide technical guidance and mentoring, and collaborate with engineering, product, design, infrastructure and programme teams.

Qualifications and skills:

• 8–12 years of relevant hands-on experience in machine learning and software engineering, including enterprise AI/ML development, validation, deployment and improvement.
• Skills in ML, NLP, computer vision, enterprise GenAI, agentic AI harness engineering, tool use, retrieval and evaluation. The posting also lists responsible AI, security, model governance, observability, software integration, stakeholder management and cross-functional delivery.
