About this role
The Data Scientist designs, develops, and implements advanced analytics and generative AI models to deliver predictive and prescriptive insights from large-scale structured and unstructured data. This role partners with cross-functional teams to translate business challenges into data-driven solutions, leveraging industry-standard machine learning, generative AI, and data visualization tools to inform confident decision-making and drive innovative product creation. The position applies cutting-edge tools across on-premises and cloud environments, including GCP Vertex AI and IBM Watsonx, while fostering data literacy and promoting AI/ML adoption across UPS. Responsibilities include defining and integrating data sources, developing robust data pipelines, collaborating with data engineering teams, performing exploratory data analysis, and deploying generative AI solutions. The role also involves tracking model KPIs, ensuring validation and retraining, creating scalable solutions with clear documentation, and communicating findings to stakeholders. Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Master’s preferred) and at least 5 years of experience in applied data science, machine learning, generative AI, or advanced analytics, with a proven track record of launching production-scale projects. Technical proficiency in Python, R, and SQL is required, alongside knowledge of supervised/unsupervised learning, regression, classification, clustering, and LLMs. Preferred experience includes expertise in cloud AI technologies (GCP, IBM Watsonx, AWS, Azure), modern data pipelines, and a background in operations research or quantitative social science.
