AI Engineer

Ford Motor Private Limited seeks an AI Engineer for its Enterprise Technology team in Chennai, India. This hybrid, full-time role builds scalable, user-facing applications using Generative AI and cloud-native technologies on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The engineer contributes to architecture, product strategy and the technical direction of AI-powered initiatives for commercial customers.

Responsibilities

• Design, train and deploy classical machine learning models for classification, regression and clustering, alongside Generative AI workflows.
• Develop production AI agents that perform multi-step reasoning, use tools and connect to external APIs. Integrate AI/ML models into applications through RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Build scalable data and ML pipelines that automate training, deployment and versioning. Implement monitoring and governance to track production model performance, drift and reliability.
• Build, host and scale applications on GCP in serverless or containerized environments. Collaborate with product managers and engineers using Agile practices.

Required qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or a related technical field, plus at least 3 years of professional experience in AI/ML engineering or software engineering focused on model deployment.
• Strong machine learning fundamentals and practical experience with libraries such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch or TensorFlow. Hands-on experience with LLMs and orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex or AutoGen.
• Working knowledge of GCP, specifically Vertex AI, BigQuery and Cloud Run; Python proficiency; and understanding of API design, Git version control and unit testing.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience using Terraform for cloud infrastructure and Tekton or similar cloud-native CI/CD frameworks for ML workflows. Experience moving an AI agent or ML model from prototype to a stable, monitored production environment, plus strong communication with non-technical partners and an interest in continuous learning.
