Senior/Staff AI Engineer

SAP seeks a Senior/Staff AI Engineer to architect and deliver large-scale AI systems for its enterprise products. The role takes ideas from concept to production, building services, APIs, agentic workflows and user experiences that support automation, decision-making and customer experiences.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize scalable AI systems and integrate AI capabilities into enterprise environments, addressing performance and reliability.
• Lead initiatives from design through deployment and optimization; define technical standards, guide architectural decisions and mentor engineers.
• Collaborate with product leaders, engineers and architects across global teams. The stack includes Go, Java, Python, LangGraph, PostgreSQL, SAP HANA and GraphQL.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience delivering ML or AI solutions in production, with a record of delivering complex systems at scale.
• Experience architecting scalable systems, APIs and data platforms; hands-on programming in Go, Java or Python; and experience with distributed-system technologies such as messaging systems, databases and RPC frameworks.
• Practical experience applying AI/ML techniques, including LLMs, in products; exposure to CI/CD, testing and cloud-native architectures; and experience leading end-to-end initiatives and mentoring engineers. The role calls for ownership, clear communication and effective collaboration in ambiguous environments.

Preferred

Experience integrating AI into large-scale enterprise platforms, open-source contributions or AI/ML community engagement, and full-stack or platform engineering experience.

The position is based in Bangalore, India, is marked hybrid and is a regular full-time role. Expected travel is 0–10%.
