Senior Engineer - AI Platform

Barclays seeks a Senior Engineer - AI Platform to develop applied AI systems that address business needs. Responsibilities

• Lead development of generative and agentic AI systems for domain-specific conversational AI and workflow automation. Build full-stack, multi-agent systems, develop function tools, and integrate agents with back-end services through REST APIs, MCP or A2A. Expose agentic back ends and wrap existing systems with MCP servers.
• Use context caching and compression to improve LLM performance and response times. Implement guardrails and policy enforcement to meet data privacy and security standards. Develop tools and frameworks for prompt-based model training, evaluation and optimization, and analyze model performance to identify improvements.
• Deliver scalable, maintainable software; collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers on requirements and integration; participate in code reviews; apply secure coding and unit testing; and communicate with technical stakeholders and senior leadership. The role also carries expectations to guide technical direction, advise stakeholders, support risk controls and contribute to continuous improvement.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, mathematics or a related discipline. Experience building software at scale on AWS, Azure or GCP, with fluency in Python, Java or Go.
• Hands-on experience with generative and agentic AI frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, CrewAI, Strands SDK or Google ADK; familiarity with MCP and A2A; and experience deploying agentic solutions using services such as AWS Bedrock, Azure AI Foundry or Vertex AI.
• Understanding of LLMs, effective prompting, AI use in software development and legacy-code transformation, API development and LLM integration. Ability to take system designs from ideation to completion with limited supervision and explain results clearly.

Preferred
