About this role
Smartsheet seeks a Senior AI/ML Ops Engineer I to design, develop and maintain reliable AI/ML platforms and pipelines that move models from development into production. The role calls for 7–12 years of experience designing, developing and maintaining stable AI/ML Ops platforms or pipelines; the application specifies at least 7 years in an AI/ML Ops role.
Responsibilities
- Package and deploy reproducible, interpretable AI/ML services; build automated CI/CD pipelines and provision infrastructure for model training and serving using Docker, Kubernetes or serverless platforms.
- Monitor production model performance, data drift and latency. Automate retraining and data pipelines, and manage deployment of foundation models, fine-tuning workflows and RAG stacks involving vector databases and knowledge graphs.
- Optimize GPU and CPU utilization, cloud costs and inference latency. Manage data, code and model versioning; implement data security and governance controls; and troubleshoot reliability issues.
- Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers and software engineers, evaluate emerging technologies and improve the data platform.
Required capabilities include building scalable, reliable, efficient and secure AI/ML Ops systems for highly available enterprise SaaS solutions; handling large-scale structured and unstructured data from varied sources, including petabyte-scale work in the Databricks Lakehouse ecosystem; and working with Databricks AI/MLOps workflows, MLflow, Mosaic AI Agent Framework, Unity Catalog, Vector Search, knowledge graphs, LangChain and LangGraph. The posting also calls for Python, SQL, Kubernetes, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, monitoring, alerting, cost optimization and hands-on experience with at least one of AWS, Azure or GCP. Experience with Monte Carlo, AWS Bedrock, AWS-hosted data platforms and Terraform is preferred where specified.
The position is hybrid in Bangalore, requiring three days a week in the office; applicants must be willing to relocate there and be legally eligible to work in India on an ongoing basis.
