About this role
SonicWall is seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer to lead the architecture, development, and evolution of a large-scale malware analysis and cybersecurity platform. This role involves owning the end-to-end technical architecture across Python-based analysis pipelines, message-driven job orchestration systems, Windows VM sandbox environments, and web-based interfaces. The successful candidate will drive modernization initiatives, lead the design of advanced detection capabilities including behavioral analysis and machine learning-based classification, and ensure platform scalability and performance.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end technical architecture of the SonicSandbox analysis pipeline and UrlProtection microservices.
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of new detection capabilities.
- Define technical direction, including architecture, coding standards, and testing practices.
- Manage the complete software delivery lifecycle from design through production deployment.
- Ensure production stability, monitor platform health, and lead incident response.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior engineering staff.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of software engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree, 8 years with a Master's degree, or 6 years with a PhD.
- Expert-level Python development skills, including asynchronous programming (asyncio, aiohttp, FastAPI), multithreading, and distributed task processing (RabbitMQ, Taskiq/Redis, Celery).
- Strong proficiency in C and C++.
- Experience with KVM/libvirt or comparable virtualization technologies.
- Deep understanding of malware analysis, sandbox technologies, and cybersecurity platforms.
- Hands-on experience deploying machine learning inference workloads using frameworks like PyTorch, LightGBM, scikit-learn, or ONNX.
- Strong knowledge of databases (MySQL, SQL Server, Redis, MongoDB) and containerization (Docker).
- Excellent written communication skills and experience working in distributed, asynchronous engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building or supporting production-scale headless browser automation pipelines.
