Lead, Data Scientist

The Lead, Data Scientist joins Bain & Company's Data Science & Machine Learning Engineering experts within its AI, Insights & Solutions team. Working with consultants, engineers and clients across industries, the role designs, implements and refines analytical and machine learning solutions throughout the data science life cycle, including production-scale deployment.

Responsibilities

• Develop durable models, algorithms, tools and software solutions for large-scale client and internal needs. Translate business problems into scoped analytics projects and work with consulting teams to execute them.
• Prepare structured, semi-structured and unstructured data at scale through cleaning, enrichment, deduplication and joining. Collaborate with data engineering teams on acquisition, preparation, pipelines and platforms that support modeling and experimentation.
• Define modeling techniques, experimentation strategies and analytics workflows; write documentation and unit and integration tests, conduct reviews, and promote reusable development practices.
• Work with engineering teams to deploy and operationalize scalable models. Advise clients and internal stakeholders, communicate data science concepts to technical and business audiences, and identify opportunities to improve analytics capabilities.

Requirements

• An advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Econometrics, Statistics or Information Sciences; at least 5 years of experience, including 3+ years in analytics. A PhD is a plus.
• Proficiency in Python, data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, testing and scalable machine learning code. Experience deploying models with Docker, Terraform and MLOps tools such as MLflow and GitHub Actions; managing modeling pipelines with tools such as Airflow, Beam, Luigy, Spark or Nifi; and working with SQL or NoSQL databases and AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Experience scaling training and inference on large datasets and optimizing production pipelines. A strong foundation in machine learning and deep learning, including supervised and unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning and NLP.
• Agile working experience, communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, critical thinking and initiative. Professional knowledge of both English and German is required.
