About this role
Standard Chartered seeks a Human-Centered AI Data Scientist for its Strategy and Talent (S&T) function in Bangalore, India. This permanent, hybrid role supports responsible adoption of vendor-provided and internally developed AI systems. It combines AI and data science expertise with attention to fairness, transparency, AI literacy, and the human and ethical effects of AI.
Responsibilities
- Guide human-centered AI use-case ideation, assess technical readiness and feasibility, and define measures of AI’s effects on productivity and user experience.
- Develop an ethics-by-design framework for vendor and internal deployments. Design experiments and research into human–AI collaboration and the human factors affecting AI systems.
- Assess and validate AI capabilities against organizational standards, including performance, explainability, bias, fairness and ethics; design behavioral application tests where needed.
- Promote trustworthy AI under Group Responsible AI standards and support AI literacy. Work with AI Safety, Model Risk, Conduct and Compliance, and other teams on governance, documentation, monitoring and applicable global regulations.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders across S&T, technology, business and control functions, and work with third-party vendors.
Required qualifications
A master’s degree in human-computer interaction or behavioral sciences, or a bachelor’s degree in cognitive science, data science, computer science, applied statistics or a related discipline; at least 5 years of work experience, preferably in a highly regulated industry. Candidates need real-world exposure to AI, machine or deep learning, statistical analysis and modeling, natural language or computational linguistics, computer vision, signal processing, and/or generative AI. They must understand AI ethics, risk, human-centered AI, model and data governance, and HR-related AI regulations and policies, with strong stakeholder-influencing, vendor-management and communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
An MPhil or doctorate in a relevant field; familiarity with financial-sector AI regulation and hands-on AI and data ethics governance. Experience with LLMs, RAG, Dataiku, Databricks, MLOps, SQL and NoSQL is preferred, as is knowledge of bias and stability testing, model risk management, validation, reproducibility, quality assurance and data or model shift.
