About this role
Barclays is hiring an Engineer - AI Platform to design, develop and improve software that provides business, platform and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues. The permanent, full-time role is based in its Bengaluru and Pune offices in India.
Responsibilities
- Deliver scalable, maintainable and performant software using appropriate programming languages, frameworks and engineering methods.
- Work with product managers, designers and engineers to define requirements, devise solutions and integrate software with business objectives.
- Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing; apply secure coding and unit-testing practices to protect sensitive data and improve reliability.
- Keep up with technology developments, contribute to technical communities and take ownership of risk and controls within assigned work. The role may involve leading and supporting a team or acting as a technical advisor as an individual contributor.
Required skills:
- At least 3 years of cloud software engineering experience building applications at scale on AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Python, which is preferred, or Java or Go; REST APIs, asynchronous frameworks and clean, testable code.
- Hands-on generative AI and LLM experience, including LLM API calls, prompt building, RAG patterns and embeddings.
- An agentic AI framework such as LangGraph, LangChain or Google ADK, plus Docker and Kubernetes basics.
Highly valued additional skills include observability with OpenTelemetry, structured logging and distributed tracing; OPA/Rego or access-control systems; AI safety concepts covering prompt injection, PII and content filtering; and infrastructure as code with CloudFormation or Terraform and GitOps workflows. Assessments may cover risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking and technical skills.
